Starting out
Clym was asked to audit the recycling program of a medium sized company (approximately 100 employees). Over the next few weeks Clym tracked solid waste and recycling volumes and interviewed staff. Due to confusion over the recycling procedures, the housekeeping staff often placed recyclables in the wrong container. After a thirty-day review Clym reported that the company was recycling only 10 percent of recyclables. In addition, Clym noticed that the company was having its solid waste dumpsters emptied daily. The dumpsters were often not even half filled and in many cases were filled with recyclables.
How we helped
The company decided to implement the WeRecycleAtWork.com program on a ninety-day trial basis. Clym switched the company to a single-stream recycling process and conducted training on the new program. Recycling containers were provided throughout the facility. As recyclables were accumulated the housekeeping staff was trained on how to manage these materials. Clym collected and transported the recyclables and tracked the volumes and weight.
